Dear Families, Friends, and Community Supporters,
On August 1st 2009, in memory of our daughter Madylen, we will be hosting the 2nd annual Madylen Grace Burk memorial golf outing at Beech Hollow Golf Course in Freeland, MI. As many of you know and for those who don’t, Madylen was born with a genetic neurological disease called Krabbe. Madylen was born healthy August 3rd, 2006, diagnosed with Krabbe February 26th 2007, and went to Heaven Sept. 2nd, 2007. It’s in her honor that we again this year come to you asking for support. If we can spread awareness to spare just one family of this tragedy, this outing would be a great success. Words cannot express our gratitude for the continuing love and support displayed by our families, friends, and our community.
This year we plan on doing something extra special with the proceeds from the benefit. There are two families in our community dealing with medical catastrophes that we would like to use a portion of our proceeds to support them. In addition we will be supporting Hunter’s Hope which is the national association for Krabbe disease research and awareness. We will also support the Johnny Burke Children’s foundation which assists local families with special needs for their children. Last year due to your support we were able to raise $13,000 to be split between the two charities. That amount is something we should all be very proud of.
We understand that this year with the economy in the shape that it is, that it may be difficult for some of us to contribute as much as last year, or possibly not at all. We appreciate any level of donation or participation. We would prefer to get as many people involved as possible, as getting awareness about the disease is one of our primary goals. Also there is the opportunity for non-golfers to participate by just coming to the bbq chicken dinner. The dinner will consist of ½ chicken with all the trimmings served in the pavilion at the golf course after we finish golfing. The cost for the dinner only will be $12.
Again we appreciate all the support from all of you in whatever fashion it may be. Thank you very much; we look forward to seeing you at the outing.
